Where can I buy Classico® products?

Classico® products are sold at most food retailers, grocery stores, and local convenience shops.

Can I reuse the Classico® jar for home canning?

No. A coating is applied at the glass plant to reduce scratching and scuffing. If scratched, the jar becomes weaker at this point and can break more easily. This would increase the risk of the jar breaking when used for canning. Also, the lighter weight of our current jar could make it unsafe for home canning.

How long can I keep an opened jar in my fridge?

There are no preservatives in Classico® pasta sauces. The recommended fridge life for Classico® tomato pasta sauce varieties is five days after opening, as long as it is closed properly. For Classico® cream-based Alfredo and Rosée pasta sauces, we recommend a maximum of three days. For Classico® pesto sauces, the recommended fridge life is from four to six weeks, if properly sealed. If you detect changes in colour, consistency, or odour, do not use the product.

Can I freeze any leftover sauce?

Yes. Classico® sauces can be removed from the jar, placed in a plastic food storage container, and frozen for 2-3 months.

Can I freeze the Alfredo and Rosée sauces?

Yes, although freezing and reheating the Alfredo and Rosée sauces does compromise the sauce quality a bit. It is important to defrost the sauce slightly in the refrigerator, not at room temperature, and reheat in saucepan over low heat, stirring frequently. When the sauce is first put into the saucepan after defrosting, it may appear curdled. This appearance will dissipate and the sauce will once again become smooth with frequent stirring over low heat. The sauce should NOT be reheated in jars or bags in microwave ovens, because the sauce tends to burn easily around the edges.

Is the sauce heat packed or vacuum packed?

The jars are “hot-filled”. As they cool, a vacuum seal is created.

Which of the Classico® sauces are gluten free?

All of the Classico® sauces are gluten free. Because our product recipes can change, please be sure to carefully read the ingredient list on the jar, or contact our Consumer Affairs team.
