Trifle Tips
- Can't get fresh raspberries? Use 2 cups frozen raspberries instead. Thaw the raspberries and, for extra flavour, save the juice to drizzle over the brownie layers.
- Switch up the flavour by using angel food cake, marbled pound cake or coarsely chopped cookies (really, whatever's at hand) instead of the brownies.
- For an added decorative touch, drizzle the inside of your serving bowl with melted chocolate and refrigerate before assembling the dessert.
- Create elegant individual trifles by layering this dessert in a parfait or wine glasses - perfect for small gatherings.
Did you know?
Originating in England, the trifle has a long history, going as far back, some say, as the 1500s when it was just a mixture of fruit and cream. It has gradually evolved to include any number of delicious ingredients, including sponge cake, custard, pudding, Jell-O, cream and fruit. In North America, it is now synonymous with the holidays.
