Weeknight Rush Pantry

We've thought through weeknight cooking and come up with a few basics that will make your kitchen work a little easier for you.

Here are our Top 10 items to keep on hand so you can reach in and pull dinner out quickly and easily.

  1. Bite-sized pasta (macaroni, rotini, fusilli, bow ties, shells - small pasta cooks quickly).
  2. Canned diced tomatoes.
  3. Instant Rice (Ready in 5 minutes that means dinner can be ready in 15).
  4. Kraft Shredded Cheese -Lasagne, Pasta, Pizza, Macaroni and Cheese, French Onion soup, Nachos, Cheese breads.
  5. Miracle Whip dressing - apart from the obvious, you can use as a short cut to sauces & casseroles.
  6. Frozen vegetables - no wash, no chop, already cooked and ready to go.
  7. Mild Salsa - doubles as a tomato sauce for lasagne, pizza or even spaghetti.
  8. Pizza shells - add whatever ingredients are on hand plus the shredded cheese and you've got dinner in 15 mins.
  9. Kraft Zesty Italian Dressing (or Sundried Tomato & Oregano Dressing) - great as a stir fry sauce or marinade for chicken or beef, adds zip to scrambled eggs.
  10. Canned tuna or salmon.

Pots & Pans

We use the most commonly available pots and pans to cook with. Nothing fancy. Just the basics, like the ones listed here:

13 x 9-inch Pyrex baking dish
Makes lasagna, chicken bakes, scalloped potatoes

2 qt (2L) Saucepan
Good for sauces, mashed potatoes, rice, pasta

10-inch Frypan
Shepherds pie, potato frittata, 15 minute flash in the pan dinners
