Salad can be just a salad, but how you present it can make the difference between ordinary and extraordinary!

TIP 1. Did you know that Kraft Dressings also make great marinades? Marinating veggies, meat or fish before grilling adds even more flavour. In 30 minutes, marinated veggies or meat are ready for the grill. Use non-reactive dishes for marinating. Cutting slashes in the food will allow the marinate to penetrate. Drain marinated food and pat dry before cooking (moisture prevents food from browning and sticking on the grill).

TIP 2. Add your favourite toppings alone or as a combination for variety, colour and crunch. Try cubed or shredded cheese, dried fruit, nuts, fresh herbs with tender leaves, croutons, toasted pita chips, ramen noodles or chow mein. To make sure some of these ingredients stay crunchy, add them right before serving.

TIP 3. Add pizzazz by upgrading your presentation - try a leaf of iceberg, leafy green or radicchio as a serving vessel for your salad; separate your ingredients on a serving plate for a composed buffet salad, or layer your salad components in a glass bowl contrasting colours and textures, so that there’s a little bit of everything for everyone.

TIP 4. Consider placing your salad in a bowl that can easily be nested in another bowl or decorative container, especially for potlucks or outdoor dinners. Fill the larger bowl partway with ice and the salad will stay cool and safe for longer.

TIP 5. Whenever there is any leftover salads like protein, pasta, and bean salads, they could be made into great sandwich fillings. Split a pita pocket, stuff with the leftover salad, and garnish with fresh lettuce and chopped tomato.
