Raspberries
Raspberries are thimble shaped with soft, slightly furry appearance, and a tart-sweet flavour.
Availability
Raspberries are available all year, but they are at their peak June through September
Varieties
The most common variety is the red raspberry. However, they can be found in a range of colours - yellow, orange, amber, white, and black.
Purchasing
Look for berries that are full and round, not flattened or bruised.
Avoid raspberries containers marked with juice stains (indicates crushed berries).
Storing
Remove any berries with mould to avoid spreading it to the other berries.
Place berries in the refrigerator immediately. The cold temperature prolongs their freshness and quality.
Raspberries can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Beyond this point, their quality begins to deteriorate.
Preparation/Cooking
Wash the berries rapidly and gently, and use them immediately.
Tips
