The ranges for calorie, sodium and cholesterol content, as well as other nutrition criteria, are based on the food group content of the specific products. For example, products that may be a larger component of a meal, such as a main entrée, are required to contain more nutrition benefits (such as calcium, fibre, protein, or a serving of vegetable) to help meet daily nutrient needs.

Convenient Meal Products can qualify in one of two ways (per serving):

• Depending on the type of product, upper caloric limits will range from 250 - 600 calories
• Contain no more than 30% calories from fat and no more than 10% calories from saturated fat plus trans fat
• Contain no more than 25% calories from added sugar
• Contain no more than 480 - 960 mg sodium
• Contain no more than 60 - 90 mg cholesterol
• Is a "source of"* Vitamin A, C, E, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, protein, fibre or contain at least a half-serving of fruit, vegetable or 8g whole grain or has a functional nutrition benefit

OR

• Must be free of or low in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar or sodium, or must have 25% less of one of these in comparison to the base product or an appropriate reference product or meets definition for lean or extra lean; and must be reviewed by Nutrition Department
