  • Prepare and bake the cake according to the box recipe, making two-round 9-inch cakes. Cool cake all the way.
  • In small bowl, beat the cream with the confectioners' sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  • Place one cake on a plate and spread 3/4 cup of the whipped whipping cream. Top with half of the cherry pie filling, then place second cake on top. Spread the rest of the cream onto the cake, including the sides. Put the rest of the cherries on top, keeping them in the middle. Place the shaved chocolate on top and around the sides.
