These attention-grabbing asparagus and bacon bundles make perfect appetizers to serve at your next outdoor barbecue. In addition to the bacon basting the asparagus with flavour as it cooks, the homemade teriyaki sauce also adds the perfect glaze to make them finger-licking good!

  • Heat greased barbecue to medium-high heat.
  • Mix first 5 ingredients until blended. Wrap 1 bacon piece around 3 asparagus pieces; thread onto skewer. Repeat 2 times, threading both other pieces on same skewer.
  • Repeat with remaining bacon and asparagus pieces, threading onto 3 additional skewers.
  • Grill 3 to 4 min. on each side or until bacon starts to turn crisp. Brush with barbecue sauce mixture. Grill 2 min. or until bacon is crisp and sauce is hot and bubbly.


Substitute 1-1/2 tsp. ground ginger for the grated gingerroot.


If using wooden skewers, soak them in water before using to help prevent them from scorching on the barbecue.

How to Blanch Fresh Asparagus

To blanch fresh asparagus, add the spears to a large pan of boiling water. Cook 2 to 3 min. or just until crisp-tender. Drain asparagus, then immediately plunge it into a bowl of ice water to stop it from cooking. When completely cool, drain the asparagus and pat dry.
