Brussels sprouts should have a fresh green colour, firm body and tight-fitting leaves.
Serve with toothpicks. For added flair, use small cookie cutters or a small paring knife to cut shapes from pieces of citrus peel, or red, orange, yellow or green pepper slices. Slide the shapes onto the toothpicks, then serve with the baked Brussels sprouts.
To prevent cold bacon slices from sticking together and tearing when pulled apart, form the unopened bacon package into a lengthwise tube then roll it back and forth a few times on the countertop. This loosens the bacon slices so they pull apart easily.
