  • Heat oven to 350ºF.
  • Mix first 4 ingredients until blended. Beat butter in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add cream cheese and vanilla; beat until blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in apples.
  • Pour into greased and floured 12-cup fluted tube pan or 10-inch tube pan.
  • Bake 1 hour or until toothpick inserted near centre comes out clean. Cool cake in pan 10 min.; loosen from sides of pan with knife. Invert cake onto wire rack; gently remove pan. Cool cake completely.
  • Microwave caramels and cream in microwaveable bowl on HIGH 2 to 3 min. or until caramels are completely melted and sauce is well blended, stirring every 30 sec. Drizzle over cake.

    It was just OK. I made two cakes the first stuck to pan somewhat after baking for 1 hour, toothpick test and touch test. (yes my pan was greased and floured). For the second try I increased baking time by 15 minutes. Cake came out of pan OK. I really like the simplicity of this cake and will bake one more time. I will however add an extra apple and I am thinking I will use a thick style yogurt which will give me the "tang" of the cream cheese and less calories.

    This is a great autumn recipe. I made it for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. I made some extra caramel sauce and left it in a bowl on the side and guests added some extra sauce to their cake slice. Everything was a hit!
