  • Heat oven to 350ºF.
  • Combine flour, five-spice powder, baking soda and dry pudding mix. Beat butter and brown sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Blend in egg. Gradually add flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  • Drop tablespoonfuls of dough, 2 inches apart, onto baking sheets.
  • Bake 10 to 12 min. or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. Cool 1 min. on baking sheets. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.
  • Whisk icing sugar, water and extract until blended; brush onto cookies. Sprinkle with nuts.

How to Toast Nuts

Toasting nuts adds crunch and intensifies their flavour. To toast nuts in the oven, spread nuts into single layer on bottom of shallow pan. Bake in 350°F oven 8 to 10 min. or until golden brown, stirring occasionally. To toast nuts on the stove top, place nuts in ungreased skillet. Cook on medium heat until golden brown, stirring frequently. To toast nuts in the microwave, place up to 1 cup of nuts in microwaveable shallow dish. Microwave on HIGH until fragrant and crisp, stirring every 30 sec.
