  • MIX flour, 1/3 cup (75 mL) brown sugar & butter until crumbly. Press mixture into 13 x 9 in (33 x 22 cm) baking pan; bake 15 minutes at 350°F (180°C).
  • HEAT milk & 6 squares chocolate over low heat, stirring until chocolate is melted & mixture is smooth; cool 5 minutes; spread over crust.
  • BEAT egg & remaining sugar; add nuts & cherries. Spoon mixture over chocolate layer. Bake 25 minutes; cool. Cut into bars.
  • MELT remaining chocolate & drizzle over bars. Store in refrigerator.


To drizzle chocolate, melt chocolate in microwave on MEDIUM power 1 to 2 minutes; spoon into small sturdy plastic bag. Using a toothpick, poke a hole into end of bag & squeeze out chocolate.

    I made this using dark chocolate sweetened with 2 Tbsp. thick golden syrup instead of semi sweet. I also thought it sweet enough and didn't put the extra chocolate on top. It was a beautiful and flavorful daintee!
