  • Add 3-1/2 cups water to coffee grounds in 2-L glass or plastic pitcher; stir until dissolved. Cover with plastic wrap; let stand at room temperature 12 hours.
  • Strain coffee by slowly pouring it, in small batches, through a coffee filter, fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth-lined sieve; let stand until all coffee is strained. Repeat. Discard grounds. Return coffee to pitcher.
  • Refrigerate 2 hours or until chilled.
  • Stir cream and remaining water into coffee just before serving over ice.

Omit cream, and substitute tonic water for the 3 cups tap water added to the strained steeped coffee.

Special Extra

Add maple syrup, honey, or low-calorie or no-calorie sweetener to suit your taste.

The coffee grounds can be steeped in the 3-1/2 cups water up to 24 hours before straining and refrigerating as directed.
