I love this dolly cake! I have made it three times now, (in different colours of course)for both of my young grandaughters. Seeing their faces light up just makes my day! And the best part for them is they get a new barbie out of it!
I was also disappointed that this wasn't a traditional cake. I decided to use a 2-layer cake mix and baked it in my largest nesting bowl which I both greased and flowered. I decorated it the same as this one but used an icing bag with a number 21 tip and used silver dragees along the "hem" of the skirt and bodice of the dress. My daughter loved it as did her friends.
I was a little disppointed that the Dolly cake was not an actual cake, but the idea is still great.
I recommend that if you cannot find a doll pick to instead buy an actual doll from the 99c store and then you can give your daughter the doll afterwords.
