Cheese, glorious cheese! Is there anything more wonderful that exists in this world? In a word, no. Ok, maybe I’m being a little hyperbolic here, but the point is, cheese is a beautiful thing that I adore more than the written word could ever accurately express. With such a deep and passionate love for all things cheese, it should come as no surprise that when at a pub, my eyes always immediately dart around the menu to look for two magical words: Mozzarella Sticks.

There’s something so perfect about a bite into a mozzarella stick. It’s that fantastic contrast between the crispy outer crust and the oozy, melted, cheesy centre. It’s both salty and almost sweet, with that hit of acidity from the pasta dipping sauce tying everything together into one perfect bite. Sigh…perfection!

I have a confession for you. Before I was even appointed the title of Kraft’s Ultimate Food Hacker, I had already found a perfect food hack for making mozzarella sticks at home. It’s true, I’ve been holding out on you! The hack just sounded so perfect and so simple that I feared once I tried it, I wouldn’t be able to stop! It wasn’t until now, when my curiosity finally got the best of me, that I finally gave in and gave the hack a try.

The hack to make mozzarella sticks at home is so insanely simple and genius, you’ll wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself! The hack involves utilizing mozzarella string cheese (which are already the ideal size) hugged in a blanket of grocery store-bought wonton wrappers, and crisped to perfection on the stove. Of course the hack turned out just as incredible as I had imagined, with the wonton wrappers achieving that wonderful crisp exterior that I had hoped for, and the mozzarella cheese oozing out when bitten into. I love this dish as a snack, as apart of lunch, or as a fun side dish with dinner. Worried that your kids won’t understand the appeal of mozzarella sticks? Call them Pizza Sticks and suddenly they’ll come running! Trust me, I learned this trick first-hand with my cousin Lucas, who now loves mozzarella sticks!

Get These

  • 8 wonton wrappers
  • 4 Kraft aMOOza Twists Mozzarella-Mozzarella Flavour Cheese Snack, halved
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ¼ cup oil
  • ½ cup pasta sauce, warmed

Do This

  1. Place one cheese piece along one side of each wonton wrapper. Using a pastry brush, brush the beaten egg along the edges of the wrapper. Fold in opposite sides of the wrapper and roll up burrito style to completely enclose cheese.
  2. In a medium skillet, heat oil to medium heat. Add mozzarella sticks and cook for 3-4 minutes, or until evenly browned and crisp. Drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with pasta sauce for dipping.
