  • Line 13x9-inch pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides; spray with cooking spray. Prepare cake batter and bake in prepared pan as directed on package. Cool cake in pan 15 min. (Do not remove cake from pan.) Pierce cake using round handle of wooden spoon at 1-inch intervals. (Or, use plastic drinking straw to make holes, using a turning motion to make large holes in cake.)
  • Beat pudding mixes and milk with whisk 2 min.; pour over cake. Refrigerate 4 hours.
  • Use foil handles to transfer cake from pan to cutting board. Cut cake into pieces with serrated knife as shown in diagram. Arrange on platter to resemble hockey jersey as shown in photo.
  • Spread Cool Whip onto top and sides of cake. Use toothpick to trace maple leaf pattern on top of cake. Place strawberry slice on each leaf point, then add enough of the remaining strawberry slices to fill in centre of leaf. Cut remaining strawberries into thin strips; arrange on cake to resemble lines on jersey as shown in photo.

How to Frost a Cake

If the cake is very soft and crumbly, apply a “crumb coating” to prevent cake crumbs from mixing with the frosting. Just spread a thin layer of frosting over the entire cake, then let stand 5 to 10 min. or until frosting is firm. Spread remaining frosting over cake.

Easy Cleanup

Lining the baking pan with foil makes for easy cleanup and easy removal of the cake from the baking pan. When lining the pan, allow 3 inches of foil to extend over each side of pan to use as handles when removing the cake from the pan.

Cooking Know-How

Make sure cake is completely cooled before frosting. A warm cake can cause the frosting to soften or melt.

How to Store

Keep frosted cake refrigerated.
