Ketchup in an apple pie? It's certainly not an ingredient you would think of being in an apple pie. No one will know it's in there, but the sweet tangy flavour will perfectly complement the sweet apple filling.

  • Combine flour, granulated sugar and salt in large bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Whisk egg and 2 Tbsp. ice water until blended. Add to flour mixture; mix lightly with fork until flour mixture is evenly moistened and clings together when pressed into ball, gradually adding remaining water if needed.
  • Divide dough in half; shape each half into ball. Flatten slightly. Wrap individually with plastic wrap. Refrigerate 1 hour.
  • Heat oven to 425ºF. Toss apples with remaining ingredients in separate large bowl.
  • Roll out half the dough on lightly floured surface to 11-inch round. Place in 9-inch pie plate; brush edge with water. Fill with apple mixture.
  • Roll out remaining dough to 11-inch round; place over apple filling. Seal and flute edge. Cut several slits in top crust to permit steam to escape.
  • Bake 50 to 55 min. or until juices begin to bubble through slits in crust, reducing oven temperature to 350ºF after 15 min. Cool.

Substitute

Substitute dried cranberries, cherries or blueberries for the raisins.

Serving Suggestion

Serve topped with slices of Cracker Barrel Old Cheddar Cheese.
