Fresh ground turkey meat is a great-tasting, low fat alternative to ground beef, pork and chicken. It's extra lean and an excellent source of protein, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B12 and niacin. Ground turkey is also tasty in spaghetti sauce!
Unbaked casserole can be frozen up to 3 months. When ready to serve, bake, covered, in 400ºF oven 1 hour 15 min. or until heated through, uncovering after 1 hour. (No need to thaw first.) Let stand 5 min. before cutting to serve. Or, to shorten the baking time, thaw casserole in refrigerator overnight before baking 45 min. or until heated through, uncovering after 35 min.
Substitute kidney beans for the black beans.
Set out bowls of chopped lettuce, tomatoes, avocados and fresh cilantro so everyone can help themselves to their favourite toppings.
Makeover - How We Did It
We've made over one of our website favourites by replacing the ground beef with extra-lean ground turkey, adding more vegetables, reducing the sodium by using no-salt-added products, and replacing the full-fat dressing and shredded cheese with reduced-fat versions. These changes will save you 110 calories, 520 mg of sodium and 9g of total fat, including 6g of saturated fat, per serving.
