I cooked russet potatoes and yams together and mashed them together. I also used garlic herb cream cheese. I layered between a combo of mozza/cheddar and parmesan cheeses and it was delicious! Went very well with the gravy and our Thanksgiving turkey!

New family favourite!

10/08/2012

big hit!!! this will become a xmas tradition and the best part is being able to make it ahead and then just popping it in the oven when the turkey comes out to rest.

I made this for New Years Day dinner and served it with the Garlic and Herb Crusted Prime Rib. These potatoes were a hit, although my son thought they were a little rich tasting. I will definitely make them again, but may try a different flavour of cream cheese product.

01/04/2011

I made this for something a litte different this Christmas dinner. Although I had skeptical family members, in the end everyone loved it! Will definatley be making again. The great thing is that it can be made in advance which really cuts down on the work when preparing a special occaison meal.

12/26/2010

Excellent, family favorite. I used a ice cream scoop and carefully scooped each portion onto the plate so you got a mound with all the layers showing. Delicious everytime!!!!!!

Excellent! Rave reviews at Thanksgiving dinner.

01/20/2009

I tried this recipe for Thanksgiving. I brought this as a side dish to our lovely friend's house who was hosting the Thanksgiving dinner. It complimented her yummy turkey very well. When I was buying the sweet potato, there was yam and red sweet potato. I didn't know which one to get. The red sweet potato in raw form was white inside. And the yam was orange. The grocery staff was telling me that the red sweet potato taste sweeter. But I went with my instinct that I wanted to get the colourful layer and bought the yam. I'm not sure if yam and sweet potato are the same, but recipe turned out perfectly. Thank-you for sharing this recipe, I'll definitely use it again!

11/04/2008

I amde this for thanksgiving last year- rave reviews from everyone...I am definitely making it again. So yummy!!

10/01/2008

Didn't use the full container of onion/chive cream cheese - too rich. Also - can substitute the grated parmesan cheese with the shredded Italian cheese mixture (provolone, mozzerella, romano and parm). Family loved it!!

05/31/2008

very tastey, visually appealing, different I will make this again

04/05/2008

Very good. I used regular cream cheese to work around an allergy of a guest, and was still very tasty!

09/13/2007

07/31/2007

What an amazing recipe! I made this for Christmas dinner and everyone ate the whole thing, and raved about it. I have a few people who dont like sweet potatoes, and they loved it! I followed the suggestions of others and just did 2 layers (one layer white potatoes on bottom, one layer of sweet on top), and it was fantastic!!!!! Definitely a keeper!

04/24/2006

I made this recipe for my family and it was soooo good. Everyone loved it.It was also very easy to prepare. I made mine ahead and put the cheese on just before baking this saves alot of time when your cooking a big dinner for family and other guests. It was so good that my husbands family has asked for it again for easter dinner...

04/12/2006

Delicious!!

04/04/2006

Absolutely the best. Easy, quick and goes with just about anything. Also good cold. I added extra cheese because we are cheese lovers.

03/23/2006

Tasty

03/11/2006

This has fast become a family favorite. I would recommend adding more chive and onion spread to both potatoes to add more zip to the dish. Extremely ymmuy! A must have!

02/17/2006

This was great only we used Sharp Cheese

01/27/2006

I made this receipe for the first time on Sun. and it was a hit. I only made two layers as there ended up only being two of us for supper. I found it very good heated up the next day. I will definitely make it again. It is good because it is not too sweet like most receipes I have for sweet potatoes.

01/25/2006

Fantastic recipe! I have made it several times. I use the lighter coloured sweet potatoes, not the orange yam ones and they are delicious. Everyone always asks for this recipe when I make it.

01/24/2006

Have made this several times and the family loves it. Looks great when entertaining.

01/22/2006

Absolutely Fantastic!!

01/11/2006

I made this for Thanksgiving Dinner "2005" and was actually embarrassed at the negative response I got from everyone including myself. Bland, boring and really missed the typical "potatoe" dishes. I rated this right after Thanksgiving yet have not seen my rating appear yet? I think this will be the last time I try something new at a dinner party before testing it ahead of time. But I will continue to try other new recipes.

01/08/2006

I made this recipe for Christmas Dinner. Everyone LOVED it!!!. Even two of my sons who dislike sweet potatoes, really liked it. It's a definite keeper in my recipe box.

01/03/2006

01/01/2006

12/28/2005

12/23/2005

I made this recipe for a potluck party and EVERYONE loved it. I used an icing bag to layer the second portion of the white potato because it is stiffer than the sweet potato layer. Worked well. Yummers!!!!

12/12/2005

My husband told me this was a keeper and the recipe is on it's way to Bazil. Easy to make and great taste & presenatation

11/28/2005

i never really had a good recipe for sweet potatoes and this is a nice solution. especially with the cheese.

11/23/2005

Absolutely fabulous, will never make potatoes the same old way again. My men loved this recipe and have asked for it over and over.

11/22/2005

This has been getting rave reviews everytime I make it. One alteration I do is to just make 2 layers, as putting stiffer white potatoes over "wetter" sweet is finicky. I layer white on bottom, then sweet on top.

11/21/2005

This was enjoyed by the family at Thanksgiving - went great with the turkey and a nice change from the ordinary mashed potato.

11/19/2005

I made this for the family dinner at Thanksgiving and even the ones that do not like sweet potatoes, loved this. I would make this again and I will probably make this at Christmas.

11/07/2005

I usually make mashed potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes for festive dinners anyhow. Combining them with the cheese was a much needed new twist for my family.

03/28/2005

While this was no doubt good, and everyone had seconds, I think that it was good because the sweet potato part was excellent, and the white potato part just OK. Next time, I'm going to double the sweet potato part and leave out the white potatoes entirely.

10/05/2005

I made this to have with our Christmas Dinner in 2004! It was easy to make and delicious!! The whole family loved it and asked for the recipe!! I will be making it again, perhaps for Thanksgiving!!

It was delicious !! Very creamy with rich flavours. Great the next day to heat up, cant keep my fingers out of the pan !

09/28/2004

Excellent!!!

09/23/2004

Fabulous. I made it as an accompaniment to ham. Made a great change from scallop potatoes or candied yams. You get the best of both worlds with this one. I also made it the day before and then reheated. A great time saver and would be a great addition to a pot luck supper.
