More affordable than many other beef steaks, flank steaks boast intense beefy flavour. And since they're considered to be ‘less tender’ cuts of beef, they're best if marinated before cooked just to medium doneness.

  • Score steak on both sides with shallow cross-cuts; cut lengthwise in half. Place in shallow dish; top with 2 rosemary sprigs.
  • Whisk 1/2 cup barbecue sauce, vinegar and garlic until blended; pour over meat. Turn to evenly coat both sides of meat strips. Refrigerate 4 hours to marinate.
  • Combine nuts, bread crumbs, 1/4 tsp. pepper and remaining barbecue sauce. Finely chop enough of the remaining rosemary to measure 2 tsp.; stir into nut mixture.
  • Remove meat from marinade; discard marinade. Season meat with remaining pepper. Heat oil in large nonstick ovenproof skillet on medium-high heat. Add meat; cook 4 to 5 min. on each side or until lightly browned on both sides. Remove from heat.
  • Spoon nut mixture evenly over meat; press gently into meat with back of spoon to secure. Heat broiler.
  • Broil meat, 6 inches from heat, 2 to 3 min. or until medium doneness (160ºF). Transfer meat to cutting board. Let stand 5 min. before cutting across the grain into thin slices.

Serving Suggestion

Garnish cooked meat with leftover rosemary. Serve with hot cooked new potatoes, or a simple potato salad prepared with your favourite Kraft or Renée's Vinaigrette.

Note

The meat can be marinated in the refrigerator up to 24 hours before grilling as directed.
