Make It

  • Beat first 4 ingredients with mixer until well blended. Add flour and baking soda; mix well. Divide dough in half. Mix half the dough with chocolate. Divide each portion in half again. (You will have 2 white and 2 chocolate pieces.)

  • Roll 1 white dough piece into 10x8-inch rectangle on lightly floured surface. Top with 1 chocolate piece, broken into smaller pieces; press gently into white dough. Starting at one long side, tightly roll up dough to form log; wrap with plastic wrap. Repeat with remaining dough. Refrigerate 1 hour.

  • Heat oven to 350ºF. Cut each log into 30 slices; place, 2 inches apart, on baking sheets. Bake 10 to 12 min. or until lightly browned. Let stand on baking sheets 2 min.; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.

These were simple. Mine weren't so much wheels as they were ovals, but I think thats due to the care of how I rolled them, they still look cute. I rolled mine out on a piece of plastic wrap covered in flour, and to roll them just picked up the end of the plastic wrap and it took care of itsself, so if your not concerned about prefect circles, its a good way to do it, And then they are wrapped for the fridge. As for taste, they are kind of similar to store bought cookie dough, only without the after taste. I'll make them again.

were really good but the baking time is to long i had my first batch in for 10 and the bottoms burned i only keep the second batch in for 8 and they were perfect!also its faster to freeze the dough for 30 minuets.


very good cookie, i dont like cream cheese, but you cant taste it in there, not the easiest to roll but definitely worth the time & effort


Very good and pretty easy, not too sweet I may add a glaze over top to give it a kick. I found the dough really sticky so I added a little more flour.


They look pretty but I agree with others who say they are bland tasting. First roll stuck to floured board so I rolled the next one between parchment paper and it turned out better.

Nice moist cookie. For Christmas I dressed them up with a green or red glazed cherry in the center before baking and a dusting of icing sugar after. Would like a stronger chocolate flavor so would add try adding some cocoa for part of the flour measurement.

This is my second time trying the recipe. This time I took "a cook"'s advice from 11/17/08 and substitued red food coloring, etc. and WOW! This cookies have just made my Christmas baking complete. Everybody loves these!

Love them! Easier to make than expected. A little bland. I substitued red food coloring, peppermint extract, and crushed candy canes for the chocolate to make them mint. Outstanding! big hit with family and friends. Will definately make them again this year

I put the rolled up dough into a glass and placed it in the freezer for about a half hour. It helped the dough keep its shape and made the recipe go a lot faster.

This is a fail proff recipe. Sort of like Cooking for Dummies. The cookies came out soft and chewy and remained that way. Not complicated and I will definitly add this cookie to my Christmas Tin..



These were the absolute best cookies, they rolled so nice. I make them every day,and eat them all. i am greedy i eat them all, i have gained 8 lbs, cuz i eat so many.


Tasted really good. However I found I had to freeze my dough to get it to cut easily and keep it's shape


My kids likes the taste but I had a hard time with the dough and they did not cut very nice. It squished the layers together even after the dough sat in the fridge for over a hour.


I made this recipe for my cookie exchange. Although they looked nice, they were quite tasteless. Also, I had to use more flour as the dough was quite sticky to roll.


These are a nice looking cookie on a plate, but they need some special attention when baking. Be sure to chill the dough before trying to work with it. Roll out on wax paper or parchment, then add the choc. layer and roll within the paper. This way they are much easier to work with.


Great & they look fantastic! Use wax paper to roll out dough - much easier to handle. This is a keeper, while they taste bland - they look great with little effort.


I found the dough very soft and difficult to work with. However, very easy to deal with once the rolled up dough had sat in the fridge for an hour. The cookies taste great!

what a messy dough. It was really moist ( I had to add more flour) and it did not roll nicely into logs. It's very bland tasting, needs more sugar. I also had to bake it longer. Will not be making this again! What a dissapointment!


Very disappointed with this cookie. Looked great in the magazine - mine looked similar but I found them tasteless so I threw them out.


What disappointment! I have been making cookies for years and my mother has made pinwheels for christmas for over 40 years. These cookies were bland and messy. Did not roll nice. had to add alot more flour and ended up salvaging them by making little balls.


This was SO easy and most importantly it does not have eggs in it. My friend's daughter is allergic to eggs and this cookie was the 1st "from the oven" cookie she ever had!
