Cook pasta as directed on pkg., adding asparagus to the cooking water for the last 2 min. of the pasta cooking time. Drain, reserving 1 cup of the cooking water.
Return pasta mixture to saucepan. Add remaining ingredients; mix lightly. Moisten with some of the reserved cooking water, if desired.
As with most shellfish, fresh shrimp should be cooked briefly to avoid a tough rubbery texture. Add peeled deveined shrimp to boiling water; cook just until shrimp turn pink and begin to curl--only a few min. Drain; rinse under cold water.
Substitute 1 cup chopped cooked chicken for the shrimp.
