When this sweet "salad" was created in the 1970s, it was called Pistachio Pineapple Delight. Somehow it took on the name of an infamous Washington, D.C., hotel. Either way, it's still a must-have side for the holiday roast.

This is a recipe I've made for many years. Always a popular addition to any meal....can be a fruity salad, or can be a dessert. I usually make it in the summertime...and is always gone...no leftovers to take home.

I made this recipe 1 week ahead of time and it still tasted good as the marshmallows became very tender. I also halved the recipe and it was still plenty for 4 people. I put almond slices instead of pecans as I do not like pecans. I will sprinkle shredded coconut next time too for a variation of this recipe.

This dish is fabulous, delicious and so easy to make. My guests loved it and requested the receipe at once. It's now on our "Most wanted to bring dish", List to family functions. Couldn't decide if to include it with the main meal or leave for desert, So we did both.
