Asparagus season is here! Soon, supermarket shelves will be full of those delicious vegetables, if not already! These crunchy stalks will be available in large quantities and at a more than reasonable price. Let’s take advantage of this!
There are several ways to eat asparagus. Yes, they can be eaten as is, steamed, but it can also be done a little differently. For example, try them grilled with a herbed yogurt sauce. Or serve them with orange slices and pecans. A true delight! And for BBQ fans, take the time to mix a little olive oil with balsamic vinegar, a little maple syrup and mustard seeds. Marinate your asparagus in this mixture before roasting them. Even the most picky eaters will be coming back for more!
The important thing is to carefully select your asparagus. Go with the plumper stems - they will be more tender. The tips should be well-closed to ensure even-cooking. You can also buy specially-made pans that are made high and narrow especially for asparagus. This way, they can be cooked vertically, leaving the tips out of the water (the tips being much faster to cook).
