Place a melon on its side on a cutting board and cut in half lengthwise, end-to-end with a large chef's knife.
Hold a melon half in one hand and scrape out seeds with an ice cream scoop or serving spoon.
Place halved and seeded melon on a cutting board. Hold melon steady with one hand and begin to scoop with melon baller. Begin by pressing the tool down into the flesh of the fruit; then rotate it for form a ball-shaped piece of melon. Transfer melon ball to a bowl and repeat. Try to scoop the fruit from the melon as close together as possible so that you can get the most from your melon.
