Cooking up your Christmas gifts

Cooking up your Christmas gifts

Christmas is the perfect opportunity to do something special for our loved ones. What could be better than a delicious homemade gourmet gift? And you don’t need to be a master chef to be able to prepare an impressive culinary surprise!

Here are four gift ideas that are sure to be appreciated by the receiver.

Onion confit:
Cook 500g of onions in a frying pan with a little bit of oil, for about 10 minutes. Add 250 ml of red wine and about 1/3 of a cup of sugar. Let the mixture simmer until the liquid is completely evaporated.  It tastes delicious with crackers and a little bit of cream cheese or goat cheese.

Frosted Fruit:
Select an assortment of your favourite berries (raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, etc). Wash and pat them dry. Beat an egg white and dip the fruits in it. Then roll them in white sugar and leave to dry on a tray for several hours at room temperature. A perfectly festive treat.

Spicy lime flavoured peanuts:
Mix the zest and juice from one lime with 2 cups of roasted peanuts. Then sprinkle them with a seasoning mix of chili powder, cumin and cayenne pepper. Bake in the oven on a cookie sheet at 325° F for around 20 minutes. A snack with panache!

Chocolate truffles:
Here is a classic that never goes out of style! Melt 7 bittersweet chocolate squares in a small sauce pan with 2 tablespoons of 35% cream. Let it cool. Then add 1 tbsp of butter and 1 egg white and whip it until thickened. Drop teaspoon sized balls onto wax or parchment paper. Coat them with wafers which have been processed into crumbs. Refrigerate.

To finish it all off, why not create a beautiful gift basket featuring all the above products? That will be sure to impress your loved ones.
